출입국관리법 시행령 제40조(외국인등록 등)

① 법 제31조에 따라 외국인등록을 하려는 사람은 외국인등록 신청서에 여권과 그 밖에 법무부령으로 정하는 서류를 첨부하여 체류지 관할 청장ㆍ사무소장 또는 출장소장에게 제출하여야 한다. <개정 2018.5.8>

② 체류지 관할 청장ㆍ사무소장 또는 출장소장은 제1항에 따라 외국인등록을 마친 사람에게 외국인등록번호를 부여하고 등록외국인대장에 적어야 한다. <개정 2018.5.8>
