주민등록법 제16조(거주지의 이동)

①하나의 세대에 속하는 자의 전원 또는 그 일부가 거주지를 이동하면 제11조나 제12조에 따른 신고의무자가 신거주지에 전입한 날부터 14일 이내에 신거주지의 시장ㆍ군수 또는 구청장에게 전입신고(轉入申告)를 하여야 한다.

②신거주지의 시장ㆍ군수 또는 구청장은 제1항에 따른 전입신고를 받으면 지체 없이 전 거주지의 시장ㆍ군수 또는 구청장에게 전입신고 사항을 알리고 주민등록정보시스템을 이용하여 주민등록표와 관련 공부(公簿)의 이송(移送)을 요청하여야 한다. <개정 2022.1.11>

③제2항에 따른 이송요청을 받은 전 거주지의 시장ㆍ군수 또는 구청장은 전출대상자(轉出對象者)가 세대원 전원이거나 세대주를 포함한 세대의 일부 전출인 경우에는 주민등록표와 관련 공부를, 세대주를 제외한 세대의 일부의 전출인 경우에는 전출자의 개인별 주민등록표와 관련 공부를 지체 없이 정리하여 신거주지의 시장ㆍ군수 또는 구청장에게 주민등록정보시스템을 이용하여 이송하여야 한다. <개정 2022.1.11>

④신거주지의 시장ㆍ군수 또는 구청장은 제3항에 따라 주민등록표와 관련 공부가 이송되어 오면 제1항에 따른 전입신고서와 대조ㆍ확인한 후 지체 없이 주민등록표와 관련 공부를 정리 또는 작성하여야 한다.

⑤전입신고에 관한 절차와 전입신고사항의 통보방법 등은 대통령령으로 정한다.
