지방자치법 제87조(청원의 심사ㆍ처리)

① 지방의회의 의장은 청원서를 접수하면 소관 위원회나 본회의에 회부하여 심사를 하게 한다.

② 청원을 소개한 지방의회의원은 소관 위원회나 본회의가 요구하면 청원의 취지를 설명하여야 한다.

③ 위원회가 청원을 심사하여 본회의에 부칠 필요가 없다고 결정하면 그 처리 결과를 지방의회의 의장에게 보고하고, 지방의회의 의장은 청원한 자에게 알려야 한다.
