원격대학은 국민에게 정보ㆍ통신 매체를 통한 원격교육(遠隔敎育)으로 고등교육을 받을 기회를 제공하여 국가와 사회에 필요한 인재를 양성함과 동시에 열린 학습사회를 구현함으로써 평생교육의 발전에 이바지함을 목적으로 한다. <개정 2021.3.23>
